BIDDEFORD: Winterfest Beer Release

We’re kicking off Winterfest with a special beer release as our own Batson River tribute to the season. (EDIT WinterFest has been postponed due to yucky weather – but we’re still rolling out this beer release on February 3rd!) Available on tap in our Biddeford location!

Bourbon Barrel-Aged Vanilla Baltic Porter – 8.7% ABV

Baltic Porter is a style of beer that came up as the lager-brewing world’s response to the British imperial stouts that were making their way across northern European waterways on their way to czarist Russia’s royal families. This dark, rich, and warming lager style focuses on a complex malt aroma, with some roasted character, however usually less than that of an imperial stout. Low hop bitterness, clean lager fermentation, and extended cold-aging are all contributing factors that give this beer a silky smoothness. We blended a portion of fresh Baltic porter with a portion of porter that had been aging in a vanilla bourbon barrel. This blend creates a balanced and strong dark beer that brings decadent aromas of vanilla, oak, dark dried fruit (think raisins or dried figs), caramelized sugars, and subtle roasted barley characteristics.
